History is often complicated and complex, and the time leading up to the American Revolution was no exception.  In the time of the Boston Tea Party, the town of Boston was divided.  Many were enraged by “taxation without representation” and supported the protests often led by the Sons of Liberty as well as the “Destruction of the Tea”.  Others were still very much loyal to the Crown and viewed the protests and the tea’s eventual destruction as a step gone too far.  Perhaps none felt this tension more than the Tea Consignees—those put in charge of the shipments of tea being sent to America.  This cursed cargo would turn into quite a burden and each would find themselves in the middle of a tense crisis.

Join the Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum for a 1-hour discussion on this clash of ideologies, focusing on the Consignees' involvement in the tea crisis of 1773.  Hear the differences between the “Patriot” and “Tory” perspectives, and learn more about central figures of the Loyalist cause in rebellious Boston.
